Sweet and Sour Pork – Chinese Takeout Style

This crispy sweet and sour pork recipe features tender pork bites tossed in a glossy Cantonese-style sauce with pineapple and bell peppers—better than takeout and easy to make at home.

Ingredients

Pork

  • 1 lb pork tenderloin cubed
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp white pepper
  • oil for frying

Vegetables

  • 1 bell pepper chopped
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • ¾ cup pineapple chunks

Sweet and Sour Sauce

  • cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup rice vinegar
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • ½ cup pineapple juice
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water

Instructions

  • Season pork with salt and white pepper.
  • Toss pork in cornstarch, then dip in egg and flour.
  • Fry pork at 350°F until golden and crispy; drain.
  • Stir-fry vegetables for 1–2 minutes.
  • Whisk sauce ingredients and add to wok.
  • Simmer until thickened.
  • Add pork and pineapple; toss quickly.
  • Serve hot.
