Easy Gamja Jorim (Korean Braised Potatoes Side Dish)

Sweet and savory Korean braised potatoes (Gamja Jorim) simmered in a soy garlic glaze. This easy Korean banchan recipe is perfect for meal prep and pairs beautifully with rice and grilled meats.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and cubed or baby potatoes
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds optional
  • 1 green onion sliced

Instructions

  • Peel and cube potatoes into bite-sized pieces. Rinse lightly and drain.
  • Add potatoes, soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, garlic, and water to a medium pan.
  • Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  • Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer 10–12 minutes.
  • Remove lid and cook uncovered until sauce thickens and becomes glossy, about 5–8 minutes.
  • Stir in sesame oil.
  • Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions before serving.
