Classic Soy Sauce Chicken Recipe

Soy Sauce Chicken is a classic Chinese dish featuring juicy chicken braised in a fragrant soy-based sauce. This simple, flavorful recipe is perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole chicken about 3 lbs or 6 bone-in thighs
  • 1 cup dark soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup regular soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 4 slices ginger
  • 3 cloves garlic smashed
  • 3 green onions chopped
  • 2 star anise
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 tbsp Shaoxing wine
  • 3 cups water or chicken broth

Instructions

  • Clean and prepare the chicken.
  • Combine all ingredients (except the chicken) in a large pot or wok. Bring to a boil.
  • Submerge the chicken into the braising liquid. Cover and reduce to low heat. Simmer for 30–40 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • Remove the chicken and let rest for 15 minutes. Slice and serve with the sauce.
