Bulgogi – Korean BBQ Beef

This authentic Korean bulgogi recipe features thinly sliced beef marinated in a sweet-savory sauce and pan-fried to perfection. It’s quick to make, packed with flavor, and better than takeout!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ribeye or sirloin thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce use gluten-free if needed
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp grated Korean pear or Asian pear
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 medium onion thinly sliced
  • 2 scallions chopped
  • 1 tbsp neutral oil for cooking
  • Optional: 1/4 cup julienned carrots or sliced mushrooms
  • Sesame seeds and chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

  • Slice partially frozen beef thinly across the grain.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, grated pear, garlic, ginger, and pepper.
  • Add beef and mix thoroughly with your hands or tongs to coat. Add onions and scallions.
  • Marinate for at least 30 minutes (or overnight for best flavor).
  • Heat a skillet or grill pan over high heat and add oil.
  • Cook the beef in batches, without crowding the pan, 2–3 minutes per side or until browned.
  • Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve immediately.
